Putting Off a Window Replacement for Too Long
What’s the worst that a small crack on the window glass can do? All it takes for water to infiltrate your interior is a small opening. Keep in mind that most energy-efficient windows are filled with gas, which can leak out if the glass panes of the window sealing is damaged.
We strongly recommend replacing your windows as soon as possible if you see any of the following signs:
- Difficult-to-operate opening mechanisms
- Warped or cracked frames
- Unexplained increases in your energy bill
Choosing the Wrong Type of Window
When buying new energy-efficient windows, always look for the ENERGY STAR® label and examine the window’s National Fenestration Rating Council’s (NFRC) ratings as each climate zone has a different set of recommended window ratings.
Focusing Too Much on the Cost
Don’t get too preoccupied with the cost—focus on the potential ROIs and how you can make the most of your money instead. Just keep in mind that no feature can single-handedly make a window energy-efficient. You need to examine the window’s total performance for that.
Forgetting to Scrutinize Contractor Qualifications
Of course, you won’t be able to enjoy the benefits of an energy-efficient window if it isn’t installed properly. To make sure new parts of your exterior are installed right and to protect your ROIs, only hire an experienced window and roofing contractor. Remember, always vet a contractor before hiring them.
